Is is safe to use an exercise ball as an office chair?
Llama friend asked:
I decided to bring an exercise ball to my office, and replace my chair with it. At first everyone thought it was a good idea, but now some people are saying it might not be a good idea.
I just started using the ball, and it’s kind of making my back hurt. Thats why some people are getting worried.
I’m just wondering if I should ease myslef into it, or if it’s ok to do a full on switch right now.

Just looking for some input. Thanks for all you can offer me!

I actually tried that before. It will make your back so uncomfortable you will wish you never saw the thing. You should use it around or after lunch as an excercise ball, not as an allday support item. If you ask your doctor you will hear the same thing.

It just depends on how well you handle that size of ball on your backside, you know? You may enjoy it for a couple of hours, but then find that your back hurts, like the other day.

Does not sound like a good idea! No comfort, bad for your posture, not conducive for an office. Try going back to a regular chair.

As long as it’s the right size (you’ll probably need the largest excercise ball you can find) so that you’re not reaching too far to reach your desktop, you should be fine.
As for the backache, it’s little different than it would be if you were using a stool. The ball does a couple of things – it reminds you to sit upright and it helps work out your balancing mechanism. Great benefits both.
Stick with it!

it will put a lot of stress on your back and cause problems for you… You can also fall if you are startled by something and hit your head but the worst thing is your back… seriously.. you dont want back problems… i have a bad back.. its not hurts and it never really gets better

it is safe. if your back hurts, don’t use it all day
