the key to an exercise ball or stability ball…same thing…is to use your core to keep your balance. when you have to keep your abs tight, your posture will improve. notice that if you site with your legs far apart and balance on the ball, its easy…put your feet together and see how the difficulty increases;-)

when you start using an exercise ball as a chair…you should start with maybe 30 min or an hour and build up from there day by day.
Using an ex ball is effective in that you are working your abs, postural muscles, legs etc. to adjust at a decent rate…good for your core.
As long as you are sitting correctly (which i think is as easy as not slouching and not messing with spine in some weird position…you might wanna look up correct posture though) you should be fine…and the back pain could be a good thing then if your doing this all right lol
